2018-19 Premier League: Week 19 Roundup

Liverpool remain top of Premier League after seeing off Newcastle United 4-0 whilst there were some surprise results elsewhere.

Goals from Dejan Lovren, Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Fabinho ensured that the Reds would not only make it not only four weeks atop but also extend their lead to six points.

Manchester City lost away to Leicester after Marc Albrighton’s header cancelled out Bernardo Silva’s opener for the Citizens. Ricardo Pereira then wrapped up the Foxes victory to send City down to third, after Tottenham crushed Bournemouth 5-0 to move into second.

Chelsea remain fourth after Eden Hazard netted his 100th and 101st goals either side of a Roberto Pereyra strike for Watford, in a 2-1 win at Vicarage Road.

Arsenal meanwhile were held to a draw at Brighton after Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang seventh minute strike was cancelled out by Jurgen Locadia on a Seagulls’ counter attack.

Elsewhere, Manchester United saw off Huddersfield 3-1 as the Terriers slid to the basement spot after Fulham clinched a 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers to move above their relegation rivals.

Burnley meanwhile met Everton only days after both had been thrashed by North London sides, and oh was this quite a thriller.

Everton made the better start with Bernard collecting a corner delivery before setting up Yerry Mina to head them into a second minute lead.

Lucas Digne then doubled that lead ten minutes later with a sharp free-kick into the top left before Ben Mee then handballed a corner kick minutes later.

Gylfi Sigurdsson stepped up to fire the Toffees into a three goal lead with only 22 minutes on clock.

Burnley then went close when Ashley Barnes headed in from a free-kick only for Jordan Pickford to clear for a corner, which was put away by Ben Gibson after James Tarkowski’s header was cleared on the line.

A tighter second half was broken in 71st minute when a corner delivery came out to Bernard, who set up Digne to drill in a low shot which found bottom right corner and effectively seal an away win.

Richarlison then confirmed all three points in injury time when he poked a through ball past Joe Hart to give Everton a 5-1 win over the Clarets, who remain third bottom.

Down on South Coast, Southampton’s two matchLIVNEW.jpg unbeaten run was ended by West Ham as Nathan Redmond’s scrappy opener was cancelled out by Felipe Anderson’s brace.

Finally, Cardiff held Crystal Palace to a goalless draw in a game of very little chances.
