2018-19 Premier League: Week 14 – Friday

This weekend’s Premier League action kicks off at the Cardiff City Stadium as Cardiff host Wolverhampton Wanderers in Friday Night Football.

Having both been automatically promoted to Premier League this summer, this should be an entertaining match between two out of form sides.

Cardiff City are set to recall Josh Murphy to starting eleven, having benched him for last weekend’s match against Everton.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Jazz Richards and Gary Madine all face fitness tests after recent injuries, whilst Kenneth Zohore looks set to miss out as he struggles with a calf injury.

Wolves meanwhile have no new injuries to report as Jonny Otto remains out with a knee injury.

Form

Cardiff City have won just two of their last five matches but their three recent games have all been settled by a single goal margin.

At home, the Bluebirds have netted just nine goals whilst conceding a second league high of 14 goals.

Wolves meanwhile are winless in their last five outings, with a 1-1 draw at Arsenal being their only point in that period. Their three goals in this period have also all come against both North London teams whilst they failed to score against Watford, Brighton and Huddersfield.

On their travels, Wolves have taken eight points out of a possible 15 from last five away games (W2, D2, L1). During that run, they have had four different goal scorers with three goals coming in second half.

Stat Attack

  • Cardiff have won three of last five meetings with Wolves (W3, L2).
  • Wolves’ 1-0 win in April was the first time since February 2015 that one team failed to score during this fixture.
  • Under Nuno Espirito Santo, Wolves have won all of their Friday games although this is their first Friday Night Football in Premier League as those wins came in Championship last season.

Prediction

Cardiff need to win home games like these and with Wolves low on confidence, anything less than three points will be a disappointment.

I therefore can see Cardiff picking up from they last left off at home in the 2-1 win over Brighton and getting a comfortable win here.

Prediction: Cardiff City 2-0 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Jake predicts: Cardiff City 1-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers

Result: Cardiff City 2-1 Wolverhampton Wanderers
