2018-19 Premier League: Week Six Roundup

With club action back in full swing, this weekend proved to be the most exciting yet as the table saw a shakeup from top to bottom and plenty of goal action.

Liverpool continued their rampant form by following up a midweek European victory over PSG with a 3-0 home win against Southampton.

That victory ultimately saw them return to the top after Chelsea could only draw 0-0 at West Ham to end their 100% record.

Manchester City continued to keep pace after running riot at Cardiff City in a 5-0 win. Sergio Aguero opened the scoring on his 300th appearance for City before Riyad Mahrez netted a late brace following goals from Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan. 

Watford meanwhile could only draw 1-1 with Fulham and drop to fourth below City as a result, after Andre Gray’s second minute opener was cancelled out by Aleksandar Mitrovic’s second half tap in .  

Tottenham ended a three match losing streak to move fifth after Harry Kane and Erik Lamela helped them to a 2-1 win, despite Anthony Knockaert threatening another late comeback for the Seagulls with a solo goal. 

Arsenal meanwhile complete top six after seeing off Everton 2-0 through Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang goals.

Elsewhere, Burnley moved out of bottom three after stunning Bournemouth 4-0 as Matej Vydra scored his first Premier League goal.

That win meant that Huddersfield replaced the Clarets in relegation zone after losing 3-1 at Leicester City, despite leading through Mathias Jorgensen early in first half. 

Manchester United could only follow up their midweek success by drawing 1-1 against Wolverhampton Wanderers as both remain in top ten, sitting seventh and tenth respectively.

Finally, Crystal Palace drew 0-0 with Newcastle United as the Magpies remain in bottom three but above Cardiff and Huddersfield on goal difference.
