Tottenham Hotspur vs Manchester City

Manchester City have the chance to put double heartache of past week behind them as they visit Tottenham Hotspur in second Saturday Night Football of this season.

Tottenham might not be in title race but know that a win here will almost certainly secure them a top four finish.

Team news

Tottenham will be without left back, Danny Rose after suffering a calf injury.

Versatile full back, Kyle Walker-Peters is ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Midfielder, Harry Winks is undergoing rehab on an ankle injury in Qatar.

Kieran Trippier could however return, after overcoming fatigue.

Manchester City won’t have Brazilian midfielder, Fernandinho available as he starts a two match ban after picking up 10 yellow cards.

Sergio Aguero will be absent with a knee injury, despite being named on bench for last two matches.

Defenders, John Stones (groin) and Benjamin Mendy (knee) are both ruled out of this clash.

Form

Since suffering a 4-1 defeat against Manchester City in mid December, Tottenham Hotspur are on a 14 league match unbeaten run (W11 D3) despite conceding in each of last three games.

Since a 2-2 draw at Liverpool in mid February, Heung Son-Min is Spurs’ top scorer with four goals but Dele Alli and Harry Kane have three goals apiece.

Christian Eriksen has however scored in last two league games against Stoke City and Chelsea.

Manchester City come here off the back of two home defeats against local rivals, Liverpool and Manchester United in past week in Champions League and Premier League respectively.

City had the lead on both occasions before succumbing to the pressures of both matches, so will be vulnerable coming here.

Away from the Etihad in Premier League, the Citizens have won their last three matches against Everton, Stoke City and Arsenal.

Stat Attack

Where can game be won or lost?

Per Game Average Tottenham Hotspur (home) Manchester City (away)
Corners 8.27 7.5
Fouls 9.07 8.88
Shots 20.47 16.75
Shots on Target 6.73 5.94
Goals 2.07 2.31
Yellow Cards 0.87 1.63
Red Cards 0 1
Goals per First Half % 35.5 54.1
Goals per Second Half % 64.5 45.9

There doesn’t appear to be a lot between these teams so we could have a tough battle here.

Tottenham have the attacking edge when it comes to shots but are slightly less clinical than Manchester City.

City however tend to score more in first half away from home and draw more fouls out of their opposition.

Discipline will also be a factor because Spurs are excellent at home behaviour wise, averaging nearly half of Man City’s yellow card average.

Given the figures in each area, you have to fancy Tottenham to dominate whilst the visitors take full advantage of any chances they get.

Either way, this is going to be a tough match that is too close to call.

Prediction

I am expecting a proper battle here but Tottenham are just on fire at minute domestically, so should just take the win here.

Prediction: Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Manchester City

Jake predicts: Tottenham Hotspur 1-2 Manchester City

Result: Tottenham Hotspur 1-3 Manchester City
