Tuesday 2nd January PL

After a quiet New Year Day, there are four more Premier League games taking place tonight.

Manchester City headline the night as they host Watford, having seen their 18 match winning run ended at Crystal Palace.

Other highlights include; Swansea vs Tottenham Hotspur, Southampton vs Crystal Palace and West Ham vs West Bromwich Albion.

Southampton vs Crystal Palace

Both teams played out 0-0 draws at weekend but with relegation still a threat, three points will do for either team.

Southampton are currently unbeaten in last eight meetings of this fixture. They however have just two wins since beating Palace in September.

The Eagles meanwhile went their first seven matches under Roy Hodgson beaten in all competitions, but have suffered two defeats in last 12 games under the ex England boss.

Crystal Palace’s joint top scorers for December – Luka Milivojevic (left) and Bakary Sako (right)

Hodgson’s side had eight different goal scorers in December, with Luka Milivojevic and Bakary Sako top with two goals apiece.

In my opinion, this should be a tight game but I fancy Palace to end their drought with victory here.

Prediction: Southampton 0-1 Crystal Palace

Jake predicts: Southampton 1-2 Crystal Palace

Result: Southampton 1-2 Crystal Palace

Swansea vs Tottenham Hotspur

Carlos Carvalhal makes his home bow as Swansea manager but faces a tough test against Tottenham Hotspur.

After a comeback win at Watford, victory here would be impressive especially given that the Swans haven’t won in last 14 clashes between these teams.

Spurs have had a week off since beating Southampton on Boxing Day however, so expect them to be favourites here.

Both teams however have worrying home/away records respectively.

Swansea have taken just eight points from 10 home league games with a (W2 D2 L6) record at the Liberty Stadium this season.

Tottenham took 12 points from their first four away games.

Since then, they have mustered just four points from six trips on the road.

For that reason, a draw seems likely but I fancy Tottenham to edge this, with Harry Kane back in form.

Prediction: Swansea 1-2 Tottenham Hotspur

Jake predicts: Swansea 1-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Result: Swansea 0-2 Tottenham Hotspur

West Ham United vs WBA

West Brom head to the London Stadium knowing that victory will lift them out of the relegation zone, if Crystal Palace lose at Southampton and they win.

Their recent record at the Hammers however suggest that it be unlikely, with the last four trips ending in draws.

West Ham however are struggling at home with one win from last six home games, despite showing a upturn in goal fortunes.

Both teams tends to score more in second half (West Ham – home, WBA – away), meaning that this should be a tight but open match.

I am going to go for a draw because either team have edge in corners, shots, on target or goal averages.

Prediction: West Ham United 0-0 WBA

Jake predicts: West Ham United 1-2 WBA

Result: West Ham United 2-1 WBA

Manchester City vs Watford

Manchester City enter this game still unbeaten domestically, despite their 18 match unbeaten run ending at Crystal Palace on Sunday.

Watford however struggled towards end of 2017 with ten points from their last 11 league games.

That doesn’t look likely to change here given City’s domination of this fixture, winning their last seven meetings with 24 goals and only three conceded.

Pep Guardiola however will have to make changes, after a fiery clash at Selhurst Park saw Gabriel Jesus and Kevin de Bruyne get injured.

That could play into the Hornets’ hands seeing as they played on Saturday afternoon.

Despite injuries to two key players, I still fancy the Citizens to win here, especially if Sergio Aguero plays given his record against Watford.

Prediction: Manchester City 2-0 Watford

Jake predicts: Manchester City 3-0 Watford

Result: Manchester City 3-1 Watford
