Middlesbrough vs Ipswich

This afternoon, the Tractor boys travel up north to face Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium.

After a 4-2 win in their last game against Nottingham Forest, Ipswich go into this game high on confidence and just one place out side the play-offs in 7th.

Things for Garry Monk’s Boro looking very worrying after back to back defeats against Derby (3-0) and Bristol City (2-1) respectively.

Back to back defeats have seen Middlesbrough’s automatic hopes all but over as they sit 14 points behind Cardiff in second and then 17 behind Wolves who top the table.

The worrying thing is that Boro now sit six points away from the final play-off spot and with their poor record against the top half teams, which has seen them only pick up a possible four points.

Even play-offs look a tough task for Boro at this moment in time.

Team news

Middlesbrough will welcome the return of Jonny Howson after he missed the Teessiders’ defeat against Bristol City last weekend.

After coming off the bench against Bristol last week Rudy Gestede will be pushing for a start after missing the last few months through injury, a much needed and welcome return for Monk.

Monk will also be able to welcome back defender Daniel Ayala as he finishes his suspension for the red card he received against Derby two weeks ago.

However it’s unclear whether Ayala will play after the backlash he got in the defeat against Derby.

Ipswich will welcome back captain Luke Chambers after the defender finished his suspension last week.

Flynn Downes also served a one-match ban for last weekend’s win over Nottingham Forest, which striker Joe Garner missed because of a foot injury.

After a very poor run of form recently and poor record against the top half teams, I can’t see anything but an Ipswich win today.

A defeat today could cost Monk his job as his Boro side continue to fall away from the promotion race.

Prediction: Middlesbrough 0-2 Ipswich

Result: Middlesbrough 2-0 Ipswich
