Aston Villa vs Middlesbrough

Today we see Aston Villa host Middlesbrough at Villa Park.

Villa go into this game languishing in 18th place after a poor start to the season.

Despite going unbeaten at home Villa have still only won one league game this season coming last month against Norwich when they won 4-2, the clubs last win came in the EFL Cup last month when they beat Wigan 4-1.

After a less than impressive display against Brentford at the weekend, a game that finished 0-0, Villa will be hoping to kick start the season with a win today.

Middlesbrough on the other hand go into this game with a bit of confidence after their last win.

It had been over a year since Middlesbrough had won an away game, coming 2-1 against Sunderland August 2016, but they finally ended that dreadful run by beating Bolton 3-0.

Former Villa man Adama Traore put in an amazing motm performance which saw him grab two assists and end up in the EFL team of the week.

Middlesbrough will be hoping to build on this win.

Last time they met

The last time these two teams met was in a pre-season friendly back in July 2016.

The score finished 3-1 that day to Middlesbrough with Negredo, Fischer and Jordan Rhodes ending up on the scoresheet.

I think it’ll be a close run affair today, Villa may be in poor form but they are hard to break down.

Middlesbrough will be looking to put a run together with a long month ahead but I think they’ll be held to a draw today.

Prediction: Aston Villa 1-1 Middlesbrough

Result: Aston Villa 0-0 Middlesbrough
