Sunday 8th January Live FA Cup ties

Today sees five FA Cup ties kicking off with Cardiff vs Fulham at 11:30am and ending with Tottenham hosting Aston Villa at tea time.

Cardiff vs Fulham (11:30am KO, BBC1 Wales)

This all Championship clash should be entertaining given that these two teams drew 2-2 when they met at Craven Cottage in the league at the start of this season.

Both have however experienced contrasting fortunes since then with Fulham challenging for the play offs, whilst Cardiff strive to avoid relegation.

Neil Warnock will be hoping that his Welsh side can end a run of three defeats in four consecutive FA Cup home games.

The arrival of Greg Halford should steady the back line against a strong Fulham team.

Fulham however have a problem because Chris Martin wants to return to his parent club, Derby County.

Manager, Slavisa Jokanovic is serious about keeping the striker and therefore Martin may be not be in the match day squad.

The Bluebirds will look to go on a cup run and use the momentum to boost morale on the league front so expect them to want it more than their visitors, who will be determined to get into the Championship play offs.

Prediction: Cardiff 2-1 Fulham

Result: Cardiff 1-2 Fulham

Liverpool vs Plymouth Argyle (1:30pm KO, BT Sport 2)

Jurgen Klopp is resting the majority of his first team squad ahead of Wednesday’s trip to Southampton in the League Cup.

Could this give Plymouth an opportunity to cause a cupset?

Loris Karius and Joe Gomez have been confirmed as starting this FA Cup match for the Reds.

They are likely to be joined by fringe players and some youngsters from the U21 squad.

Argyle have a full squad to use and will look to make their experience count against a very different Liverpool side.

The hosts haven’t lost to any fourth division side in the FA Cup before thus making things tough and Anfield haven’t seen an away side score since March 2012 in the FA Cup.

The Reds however have often struggled against lower league competition in recent years.

It wouldn’t come as a surprise if they concede but should still come through and into the 4th round draw.

Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Plymouth Argyle

Result: Liverpool 0-0 Plymouth Argyle

Tottenham vs Aston Villa (4:00pm KO, BBC1)

Spurs come into this meeting as red hot favourites but will rotate their squad ahead of a critical few weeks over in the Premier League.

Mauricio Pochettino is expected to hand Michel Vorm, Moussa Sissoko, Harry Winks and Vincent Jansssen starts against the Villains.

Steve Bruce is expected to name a strong squad with loan signing, Sam Johnstone going straight into goal.

Past meetings in the FA Cup have seen Villa emerge victorious at White Hart Lane but Spurs are unbeaten on home turf this season domestically.

The Villains on the other hand are amongst the worst away performers out of every club in the Football League, making this a tough ask of them.

With history leaning in Villa’s favour, this match should be tight and competitive but if Pochettino brings on Harry Kane and Dele Alli, there should only be one winner come full time.

Prediction: Tottenham 3-2 Aston Villa

Result: Tottenham 2-0 Aston Villa
