Trident have signed Sebastian Wheldon for the 2027 FIA Formula Three season.
Wheldon’s graduation into F3 comes after he finished second in Formula Regional Europe this season, albeit just nine points behind champion – Emanuele Olivieri.
The 17-year-old American-Brit – son of 2005 IndyCar champion, Dan Wheldon – now is “very pleased” to make the step up to F3 and is aware of the challenge awaiting him given Trident’s reputation.
“There is a lot of pressure, since I will be racing with one of the most successful teams in the category. However, I love challenges and I will give my best to learn quickly and achieve good results.
“I am extremely grateful to TWG Motorsports and Andretti Global for their support. I can’t wait for the next season to start.”
Trident Team Principal, Giacomo Ricci added that Wheldon has shown strong potential with top-ten finishes in every category he has raced in, which included the Skip Barber Formula Race title in his rookie single-seater season in 2023.
“Sebastian is a driver who has shown steady growth throughout his career, distinguishing himself in both the United States and Europe. The 2026 Formula Regional season, which ended in second place, confirmed his talent and ability to compete at the highest level.
“We are convinced that Trident Motorsport can represent the ideal context to accompany him in the next step of his promising career.”
