Portsmouth have signed centre-back, Benjamin Arthur on a season-long loan from Brentford for the 2026-27 campaign.
Arthur’s loan switch marks his second spell away from the Bees after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Celtic, where he helped the Hoops win the Scottish Premiership and Scottish Cup double with six appearances across both competitions.
The 20-year-old now has made a season-long move into the Championship with Portsmouth for the whole campaign, which pleased manager – John Mousinho as he looked to boost his defensive selection ahead of their league campaign.
“We’re thrilled to bring Benjamin here for the season to boost our defensive ranks.
“He possesses all the attributes you expect of a centre-back and is also more than comfortable with the ball at his feet.
“Despite his relatively young age, he already has experience of top-flight football and we feel he can be a real asset as we look to progress in our third season in the Championship.”
Arthur will wear the number two shirt this season at Portsmouth, having previously began his career at Peterborough before he joined Brentford in August 2023 as part of their academy line-up.
He eventually made his senior debut in last season’s third-round victory over Aston Villa on penalties in the Carabao Cup, before he then featured for them again in the fourth round in a 5-0 win at League Two’s Grimsby.
Arthur’s most recent appearance for the Bees came as a substitute in a 2-0 third-round victory at Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup in January 2026.
