Middlesbrough have signed goalkeeper, Radek Vitek from Manchester United for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Vitek’s move to the Riverside Stadium has ended his six-year stay at Utd after he joined the Red Devils from Czech Republic’s Sigma Olomouc in 2020, but failed to make a single first-team appearance.
He however has spent the last three seasons on loan at Accrington Stanley, Blau-Weiβ Linz and Championship rival, Bristol City, across which he has kept 23 clean sheets in 87 total appearances combined.
His 12 clean sheets in 41 appearances at Bristol City also saw him achieve a hat-trick of end-of-season gongs as he was voted both Supporters and Players’ Player of the Season, and also won the club’s Young Player of the Season gong.
Utd however opted to sell the 22-year-old goalkeeper this summer to Boro for an undisclosed fee which will reportedly total up to £14m if various add-on clauses are met, albeit with a 35% sell-on clause and buy-back clause included in the deal.
The 22-year-old is excited to complete his move as he praised Boro for showing ambition for its future and is targeting promotion to the Premier League with his new club.
“It feels great to be here. This is a new challenge for me and I’m really excited to be a Boro player.
“The project here is very impressive, because you can clearly see the ambition and where the club wants to go. I’m delighted to now be part of that.”
Vitek won the FA Youth Cup during his time at Manchester United and has also appeared for the Red Devils’ senior side in pre-season friendlies.
“The mission is clear: to go to the Premier League. I think everyone at the club has that mindset, and I want the same thing.”
