Forward, Ross Stewart has joined Swansea City on a free transfer.
Stewart’s switch to the Swans came just over a month after his contract at Southampton expired, having scored 12 goals in 50 appearances due to injuries in the first two seasons of a three-year stint at St Mary’s Stadium.
11 of his 12 goals for the Saints were scored in 33 appearances last season in a campaign which saw them reach the FA Cup semi-finals, plus the Championship Play-Offs of which they were expelled due to a spying scandal surrounding the first leg of their eventual semi-final aggregate win over Middlesbrough.
Swansea Head Coach, Vitor Matos has welcomed Stewart’s decision to join the Swans on a three-year contract, during which he will wear the number 31 shirt.
“Ross is an experienced and proven performer in the Championship, and we are delighted to have him as part of what we are trying to build here at Swansea City.
“In our conversations he has made clear his hunger and desire to be an important senior figure and leader in our dressing room.
“His goalscoring record shows he is someone who relishes responsibility and we look forward to getting down to work with him and settling him into the group.”
Swansea Sporting Director, Ben Stevens added that he is “delighted” to sign Stewart who will add valuable EFL knowledge to the squad off the back of having featured in Scotland’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
“He brings a wealth of experience on and off the pitch.
“His performances last season in the Championship were a standout, and it earned him a deserved place in Scotland’s World Cup squad.”
Stewart began his career at Albion Rovers with 12 goals in 33 appearances in the 2016-17 season which earned him a move to St Mirren, where he struggled with three goals in 21 appearances despite scoring 10 goals in 23 appearances on loan at Alloa Athletic in the 2017-18 season.
He then spent two-and-a-half years at Ross County with 28 goals in 82 appearances during which he helped them gain promotion to the Scottish Premiership at end of 2018-19 season, as well as win the Scottish Challenge Cup that same season.
January 2021 saw him move to Sunderland and he proceeded to net three goals in 13 appearances which was followed by 26 goals in 53 appearances in his first full season on Wearside, as he helped the Black Cats gain promotion to the Championship at the end of the 2021-22 season.
Stewart eventually amassed 40 goals in 81 appearances for Sunderland before he moved to Southampton in September 2023.
At international level, Stewart has earned four senior caps for Scotland.
