Bournemouth have signed right-back, Juanlu from Sevilla in a £11.1m transfer.
Juanlu’s move comes after he successfully established himself as a first-team regular at Sevilla in the last three seasons, with six goals and 11 assists in 107 appearances across all competitions.
Bournemouth consequently decided to swoop for the 22-year-old right-back – with him also able to play as a right winger if necessary – as a long-term replacement for Adam Smith, with Max Aarons looking out of favour and could be moved on to pastures new by new manager – Marco Rose.
Juanlu has signed a five-year contract at the Vitality Stadium until June 2031, with Bournemouth having agreed an initial £9.4m fixed fee with Sevilla plus a further £1.7m in add-ons.
Upon completion of his transfer, Juanlu spoke of his pride at securing a move into English Football
“I am very happy, both for me and for my family. We had a lot of desire to come here and finally I can say that I am a player of Bournemouth.
“It’s a very familiar club. I think it’s a very positive club to continue to grow as a football player. The city, as little as I have seen, is wonderful. I think it’s a very good place to continue to grow and grow.
“Everyone has a dream of playing in the Premier League. I think it’s the best league in the world and we all dream of playing here.”
Bournemouth’s Director of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto added that Juanlu is a positive addition to Marco Rose’s squad for the new season.
“Juanlu has an excellent level of experience at just 22, and we’re really pleased to add him to Marco’s squad.
“With Sevilla, he has shown his qualities domestically and in European competitions, so we know of his ability to compete at the top level consistently.
“He is young still and hungry for more, so adds further invaluable characteristics to the squad ahead of the upcoming season.
“We’re really looking forward to seeing how he continues to progress here with us and for how he will develop with Marco and the team.”
Juanlu began his career in the youth setups of Los Caminantes then San Alberto Magno before he moved to Sevilla in 2015, where he graduated through their youth academy to make his senior debut in December 2021 in a 1-1 draw away at Andratx in the Copa del Rey which they won on penalties.
He then made a substitute appearance nearly a week later in a 1-1 draw at home to Barcelona in La Liga, before he spent the 2022-23 season on loan at Mirandes, where he scored twice in 38 appearances before he returned to Sevilla and quickly established himself in the senior squad.
