Wrexham have signed midfielder, Ben Whiteman from Preston North End for an undisclosed transfer fee.
Whiteman’s move to the Red Dragons has brought his five-and-a-half year spell at Preston to an end, having produced 12 goals in 199 appearances for the Lilywhites since he moved to Deepdale in January 2021 from Doncaster Rovers.
The 30-year-old explained that he is happy to make the switch once Wrexham expressed interest in signing him as he believes that they’re capable of challenging for promotion to the Premier League.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be here, I’m thrilled to sign for Wrexham.
“I think any Championship player at this moment in time wants to join this Football Club.
“Wrexham is a Club that wants to get to the Premier League and so do I. So once the interest was there, it was really hard to ignore.”
Whiteman has signed an initial three-year contract until June 2029 with option for a further year.
Manager, Phil Parkinson added: “We’re delighted to welcome Ben to the Football Club.
“He’s a very experienced Championship player, and we’re looking forward to working with him in the coming seasons.”
Whiteman began his career at Manchester United but was released at 16-years old and joined Sheffield United where he went on to make 12 appearances between 2014-17, during which he managed seven goals in 23 appearances on loan at Mansfield Town in the 2016-17 season.
He then joined Doncaster on an initial loan in June 2017 but was signed permanently from Sheffield Utd six months later, as he enjoyed a solid three-and-a-half years at the Donnies with 25 goals in 159 appearances before he moved to Preston.
