Scott Lindsey has been appointed as manager of York City.
Lindsey’s appointment comes less than 24 hours after Stuart Maynard was sacked due to a creative difference with the club in direction, as the Minstermen prepare to return to the EFL after a decade.
Lindsey has previous experience in League Two with Swindon Town, Crawley Town and MK Dons, before he more recently returned to Crawley last season but was sacked in mid-March amidst a relegation scrap in which they eventually stayed up on the final day of the campaign.
In a club statement announcing Lindsey’s appointment, York pointed to his “vast wealth of experience” in the EFL.
“York City Football Club are delighted to announce the appointment of Scott Lindsey as the club’s new Head Coach.
“Lindsey joins the Minstermen ahead of our return to League Two, bringing with him a vast wealth of experience working across the EFL.
“An experienced League Two manager, Lindsey has previously taken spells at Swindon Town as well as taking charge of Crawley Town, where he guided the club to promotion from League Two via the play-offs. He has also held a role at Milton Keynes Dons at this level. His coaching career began with a caretaker spell at Lincoln City before enjoying non-league success with Chatham Town.
“In his playing days, Lindsey spent time across the EFL and non-league pyramid, including a spell at local sides Goole Town and Bridlington Town.”
Lindsey will be assisted by Joao Alves as assistant manager and first-team coach, Gary Elphick, with the latter two taking charge of their friendly tomorrow (28 July) against Peterborough.
Lindsey’s first match in official charge will take place at home against his former club, Crawley Town in the Preliminary Round of this season’s Carabao Cup on Monday 3rd August at 7:30pm BST.
