Forward, Karlan Grant has rejoined Charlton on a free transfer.
Grant previously scored 21 goals in 98 appearances for the Addicks between 2014-19 after he graduated through their academy, although he spent time on loan at Cambridge United and Crawley Town during his first spell at The Valley.
Speaking to cafc.co.uk following his return on a two-year contract after he declined West Brom’s offer of a new contract, Grant was reflective of his maturity and development since he first left the club.
“It’s an unbelievable feeling. I was a boy when I left and I think I’m coming back as a man. I’ve got a lot of experience under my belt and I know what I can bring. When I was here before, I was younger and I was raw – I’ve matured a lot as a player and I can’t wait to get back out there.
“I’ve always looked out for Charlton since I left. I’ve been so fond of the club. To be here now, knowing how much Charlton gave to me – [it feels] truly amazing.”
Manager, Nathan Jones is “absolutely delighted” to welcome Grant back after monitoring his career progress since they first met when the forward was a teenager.
“He’s someone I’ve known since he was 15 when I was at the football club and is someone who made a big impression on me back in the early days – I’ve monitored him for a long time.”
Jones added that his transfer activity is about evolving the squad in terms of adding extra quality which Grant will bring given his experience in the top two tiers of English football.
“What we’re trying to do in terms of our evolution is add more quality to the squad and he does that. He’s someone with fantastic pedigree in the Premier League and in the Championship, especially.
“He did fantastically here before and he had a real desire to come back. I wanted to be the one to bring him home. He’s one of our own, he’s done fantastically for the football club and I’m delighted to add a player of Karlan’s quality to our squad.”
Since Grant left Charlton in 2019, he spent two seasons at Huddersfield where he netted 23 goals in 57 appearances then enjoyed a six-year stint at West Brom in which he produced 35 goals in 174 appearances.
During his time at West Brom, Grant was loaned out to Cardiff in the 2023-24 season and scored six goals in 40 appearances.
