2026 FIFA World Cup: Group B – Qatar vs Switzerland

Qatar face Switzerland in their first Group B match at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 2022 tournament hosts are making their first overseas appearance at a World Cup, whilst Switzerland will be looking to progress from their group for a fourth consecutive tournament.

Team News

Qatar have a full squad available for selection under manager, Julen Lopetegui.

Switzerland too have a full squad available for selection under their manager, Murat Yakin.

When is Kick-Off?

Qatar face Switzerland at Levi Stadium, Santa Clara, on Saturday 13 June at 12pm PDT (8pm BST), live on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Qatar’s first World Cup meeting against Switzerland.
  • Switzerland lost their only previous meeting against Qatar in a 1-0 friendly in November 2018.
  • Qatar have failed to win any of their last six matches in all competitions (D2, L4).
  • Dan Ndoye has scored in three of Switzerland’s last four matches (W1, D2, L1).

Prediction

Still yet to claim a win at the World Cup Finals and in poor form coming into this tournament, Qatar really need to find a way to tighten up defensively but still score as one goal in their last five games is not good enough if want to get out of this group.

Switzerland meanwhile have a solid blend of youth and experience and if they can continue their recent form, they should be good enough to advance as Group B winner so this is an ideal group opener for them given the contrast in confidence and momentum.

In fact I expect this to be a routine Swiss victory unless Qatar are hiding something ready to pull out of the bag now the tournament is underway.

Prediction: Qatar 0-3 Switzerland
