Swindon host Chesterfield in a blockbuster battle for the final play-off spot on the last day of the 2025-26 Sky Bet League Two season.
Victory would see Swindon leapfrog Chesterfield and claim the final play-off spot, whilst Chesterfield will secure a play-off spot if they avoid defeat.
A win for either team coupled with defeat for Grimsby at Tranmere Rovers though would see them finish sixth.
Team News
Ryan Tafazolli could return for Swindon if he can prove his fitness after a recent elbow fracture in early April.
James Ball (suspension), Gavin Kilkenny (knee) Ollie Clarke (calf), Harry Smith (ACL), Paul Glatzel, Joe Snowdon and Darren Oldaker (all hamstring) remain absent.
Chesterfield have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 2-0 home win over Crewe Alexandra.
Janoi Donacien and Bailey Hobson are both sidelined with hamstring injuries.
When is Kick-Off?
Swindon host Chesterfield at the County Ground on Saturday 2 May at 3pm BST, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Swindon have lost one of their last five meetings against Chesterfield (W2, D2, L1).
- Chesterfield have won one of their last 13 visits to Swindon (W1, D3, L9).
- Three of Swindon’s last four home matches against Chesterfield ended in 1-0 results – of which Swindon won two of those three matches to Chesterfield’s one, whilst the other meeting ended 2-2 in November 2017.
- Swindon have won one of their last six matches (W1, D3, L2).
- Four of Paul Cook’s Spireites’ six away goals in their last four away matches were scored in the second half (W3, D1).
Prediction
Sat just outside the final play-off spot, Swindon simply need to bring their A game because they were just wasteful at Grimsby against the more ruthless Mariners, but they have won just one of their last six without a single clean sheet so they ideally need to tighten up and score first.
Chesterfield though have their fate in their own hands and given that they have dropped just four points in their last seven matches (W5, D2), they can come into this match confident off the back of a clinical home win over Crewe but they ideally need to score first to settle any nerves.
Swindon however know that they psychologically have a strong home record against the Spireites which will motivate them for this crucial decider, but I just think that Chesterfield have enough momentum to condemn their hosts to another season in the fourth tier.
Prediction: Swindon 1-1 Chesterfield
