2025-26 Sky Bet Championship: Week 44 – Wednesday

Charlton Athletic look to secure their Sky Bet Championship status in a huge clash against promotion-chasing Ipswich Town.

Victory would lift Charlton up to 18th in the table, whilst Ipswich can climb back up to second with a win.

Team News

Charlton have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 1-1 draw at Sheffield Wednesday last Saturday.

Harry Clarke is ineligible to feature against his parent club – Ipswich, whilst Kayne Ramsay remain absent with a hamstring injury.

Ipswich could welcome Wes Burns back into contention after he missed their last five matches with a calf injury, and failed to prove his fitness ahead of their 2-2 draw at home to Middlesbrough on Sunday.

David Button (calf), Conor Townsend (ACL) and Ashley Young (hip) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Charlton host Ipswich at The Valley on Saturday 18 April at 19:45pm BST, live on Sky Sports Football in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Charlton have lost two of their last eight meetings against Ipswich (W3, D3, L2).
  • Ipswich have lost one of their last seven trips to Charlton (W4, D2, L1).
  • Charlton have kept clean sheets in five of their last eight matches against Ipswich.
  • Nathan Jones’ Addicks have won just one of their last six home matches (W1, L5).
  • Ipswich are looking to avoid suffering consecutive away league defeats since February – March 2025.

Prediction

With safety now virtually a near-certainty, Charlton can afford to relax a bit coming into this game and just try to play their best because this is a free hit for them amidst potential experimentation ahead of next season.

Ipswich meanwhile will be frustrated to had not beaten Middlesbrough because they dominated much of their clash, yet often lacked the clinical end product needed beat Boro’s defence, although they did dig in to twice equalise after defensive switch-offs for both conceded goals.

Although I do hope that Charlton will give Ipswich a good test, their home form is poor and I just can’t see Kieran McKenna’s Tractor Boys losing this.

Prediction: Charlton 0-2 Ipswich

Result: Charlton 1-2 Ipswich
