2025-26 League One: Week 44 – Stevenage vs Lincoln City

Stevenage play host to promoted Lincoln City in a huge Sky Bet League One clash.

Victory or a draw would see Stevenage remain sixth in the table, although they can go fifth on goal difference from Stockport County if the latter suffer an unlikely huge defeat of ten goals or more at Exeter City.

Lincoln City meanwhile are already promoted but can be crowned champions if they claim the win or Cardiff fail to defeat Reading.

Team News

Dan Butler could return for Stevenage after he wasn’t risked in their 5-1 midweek defeat at Bolton, due to his game time being carefully managed despite having been named on the substitutes bench.

Daniel Phillips is suspended after he was sent off in that match for an elbow on Johnny Kenny.

Luther James-Wildin (knock) is a doubt but Harry Cornick (ankle) and Mathaeus Roberts (Achilles) remain sidelined.

Lincoln City will have Ivan Varfolomeev available after he sat out their 2-1 home win against Leyton Orient last weekend, having suffered a knock in the warm-up.

Freddie Draper (hamstring), James Collins (ACL), Adam Jackson (hernia), Adam Reach (unspecified) and Josh Honohan (muscle) are still sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Stevenage host Lincoln City at the Lamex Stadium on Saturday 18 April at 3pm BST, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Stevenage have won just one of their last nine meetings against Lincoln City (W1, D3, L5).
  • Lincoln City have won three of their last five EFL visits to Stevenage (W3, L2).
  • Each of Stevenage’s last three home matches against Lincoln City have ended in 1-0 results, of which the hosts won just one of those three games to the Imps’ two victories.
  • Stevenage have kept clean sheets in five of their last seven matches (W4, D1, L2).
  • Jack Moylan has scored in each of Lincoln City’s last two matches (W2), which both ended in 2-1 wins over Reading and Leyton Orient respectively.

Prediction

Having suffered a tough defeat at Bolton on Tuesday evening, Stevenage now need to quickly regroup for this tough test because they ideally need to keep matching or better Luton’s results if they’re to stay in firm control of that last play-off spot.

They however will be buoyant by their recent clean sheet record but after conceding five at Bolton, it will raises questions about their psychological nerve in the race for that last play-off spot.

Lincoln City meanwhile could of easily put their foot off the gas pedal now promotion is assured yet they clinically saw off Leyton Orient with two first-half goals, and I actually expect them to keep that foot down now the title is within sight and produce a strong display.

Stevenage though have a lot more competitive oomph going for them than the Imps coming into this fixture in terms of stakes, so I do think that this will be a close game and a draw feels like a fair guess.

Prediction: Stevenage 1-1 Lincoln City

Result: Stevenage 2-2 Lincoln City
