Crystal Palace meet Newcastle United in a mid-table Premier League clash.
Victory will move Palace above Newcastle on goal difference into 13th position, whilst Eddie Howe’s Magpies can move up to 10th if Sunderland lose at home to Tottenham.
Team News
Jean-Philippe Mateta won’t start for Palace as part of Oliver Glasner’s plans to rotate him and Jorgen Strand Larsen as the starting striker, with Mateta having started their 3-0 first-leg victory over Fiorentina in their UEFA Conference League Quarter-Final.
Evann Guessand (knee) is a doubt but Cheick Doucoure (knee) and Eddie Nketiah (hamstring) remain sidelined.
Newcastle will welcome Lewis Miley back from a knee injury.
Sven Botman will be available with a protective mask on his face after he suffered a cheek injury during their 2-1 Tyne-Wear derby defeat to Sunderland before the international break.
Bruno Guimaraes was set to return from a hamstring injury but is now ruled out for the next fortnight due to illness suffered upon his return from international duty for Brazil.
Fabian Schar meanwhile is now sidelined with a foot infection which has required surgery, having been previously set to return from an ankle injury and will now be absent until May.
Emil Krafth (knee) remains absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Palace host Newcastle at Selhurst Park on Sunday 12 April at 2pm BST, live on Sky Sports Action in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Palace have won just one of their last nine league meetings against Newcastle (W1, D4, L4).
- Newcastle have won just one of their last 10 trips to Palace (W1, D6, L3).
- Palace have conceded seven goals in their last two meetings against Newcastle without reply (L2), albeit away from home on both occasions.
- Palace have lost two of six league matches at home in 2026 (W1, D3, L2).
- Newcastle have won two of their four league visits to London-based clubs this season (W2, L2), of which both wins came in 2026 at Tottenham and Chelsea respectively.
Prediction
Currently eight points adrift of the final European qualification spot, Palace aren’t totally out of contention to qualify for Europe via the league if finish this season as strongly as they did last season, but it is unlikely so they will be wise putting their eggs in the UEFA Conference League.
That belief is further enhanced by their clinical home win over Fiorentina on Thursday evening in which they absolutely played with confidence and dominance to pretty much have a semi-final spot sewn up, but I do expect Oliver Glasner to rotate his squad as Fiorentina can’t be underestimated at home on Thursday.
Newcastle meanwhile can have a clear tilt at chasing down that final European qualification spot with the Champions League no longer a distraction, having cost them at least a point in the Tyne-Wear derby because they ran out of energy following their trip to Barcelona days earlier despite a strong first half.
Nevertheless, I expect this to be a tough battle as both teams have little to lose in mid-table but I do think that Newcastle will have that extra energy to nick this.
Prediction: Crystal Palace 1-2 Newcastle
Result: Crystal Palace 2-1 Newcastle
