2025-26 League One: Week 40 – Blackpool vs Burton Albion

Blackpool meet Burton Albion in a relegation six-pointer showdown at the foot of Sky Bet League One.

Victory will lift Blackpool out of the relegation zone if Exeter City fail to beat Leyton Orient at home, whilst Burton Albion can go 16th with a win if Orient lose to Exeter.

Team News

Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Karoy Anderson are ruled out for Blackpool because the pair are away on international duty for Northern Ireland and Jamaica respectively.

Albie Morgan is ruled out indefinitely with an ankle injury.

Burton will be without Tyrese Shade due to the forward being away on international duty for St Kitts and Nevis.

Kegs Chauke (knock) is a doubt and faces a late fitness test.

When is Kick-Off?

Blackpool host Burton Albion at Bloomfield Road on Saturday 28 March at 3pm GMT, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Blackpool have avoided defeat in four of their last six league meetings against Burton (W2, D2, L2)
  • Burton have won just one of their five previous League One visits to Blackpool (W1, D1, L3).
  • Blackpool have kept clean sheets in three of their last four home matches against Burton in League One, except for a 1-1 draw in March 2021.
  • Blackpool have won one of their last seven matches (W1, D3, L3).
  • Burton have lost one of their last five away matches (W1, D3, L1).

Prediction

With one win in their last seven and with Exeter also in action on the international weekend, Blackpool really need to deliver a clinical display but they can take heart from a strong defensive display in their goalless draw at Cardiff, although they now ideally need to put a winning run together to stay up.

Burton meanwhile are just four points ahead of the Tangerines so know that a win here would pretty much put survival in their own hands throughout April, whilst their away form is pretty solid coming into this crunch test because a defeat and they’re right back in the relegation scrap.

With that in mind, I can see this being a tough scrappy game especially given the various absentees for both teams so a draw feels like a fair call.

Prediction: Blackpool 1-1 Burton Albion

Result: Blackpool 1-0 Burton Albion
