Ipswich Town have iterated their ‘apolitical’ club stance following a controversial visit from Reform UK and Nigel Farage.

Reform UK leader, Nigel Farage visited Ipswich’s Portman Road as part of the party’s local election tour across the UK ahead of local elections on Thursday 7 May, during which he was photographed holding an Ipswich shirt displaying his name and the number 10, in reference to 10 Downing Street.

Farage even joked that if the Tractor Boys fail to secure an instant promotion back to the Premier League at the end of the 2025-26 season, he would be shortlisted to replace Kieran McKenna which left fans furious given the controversies linked to Farage and Reform.

Ipswich consequently were forced to issue a club statement explaining that the club is politically neutral and wasn’t endorsing Farage and Reform, having previously played host to many figures in politics at Portman Road and vowed to welcome MPs from other political parties in future.

“Following Monday’s visit by the Reform party and its leader, Nigel Farage, the club would like to issue the following statement:

“Ipswich Town Football Club has, over several years, hosted representatives from a range of political parties. The club remains apolitical and does not support or endorse any individual or party.

“The club will continue to engage with representatives from across the political spectrum as part of its role within the community.”

Ipswich proceeded to iterate that they also remained committed to welcoming organisations which supports all members of the local and wider community.

“Ipswich Town is proud to be an inclusive, diverse, and welcoming organisation that supports all members of the local and wider community. This commitment remains unchanged.”
