2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying: England vs Iceland

England continue their 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup Qualifying campaign at home to Iceland.

Victory would keep England top of the table, whilst Iceland can move into the top two if they can win by four goals or more.

Team News

Alex Greenwood is ruled out for England after she suffered a minor muscle injury prior to their 6-1 victory against Ukraine on Tuesday evening in Antalya, Turkey, and she has now returned to Manchester City for further assessment.

Iceland could be without Hildur Antonsdottir and Sveindis Jonsdottir after the pair suffered knocks in their 3-0 defeat to Spain.

When is Kick-Off?

England host Iceland at the City Ground, Nottingham, on Saturday 7 March at 12:30pm GMT, live on ITV1 and ITVX in the UK.

Prediction

Having found themselves frustrated in a dominant first half against Ukraine, England deserve credit for their second-half display after small half-time tweaks which saw them find those extra gears to break down Ukraine’s resilient defence despite a careless conceded consolatory goal.

Iceland meanwhile were absolutely outplayed by Spain as expected but they will view this as a more winnable if they bring their clinical game and target England’s defence, which hasn’t exactly been the best when under pressure but I think that they must be careful from their own defensive perspective.

Either way I expect England to face more of a tricky test but if they can dominate and control the game like they did against Ukraine, I can see them getting a comfortable win.

Prediction: England 3-0 Iceland

Result: England 2-0 Iceland
