2025-26 FA Cup: Fifth Round – Newcastle vs Man City

Newcastle meet Manchester City in a blockbuster fifth-round tie in the 2025-26 FA Cup.

Victory would see Newcastle reach the Quarter-Finals for the second time in three seasons, whilst City look to advance past this stage for an eighth consecutive season.

Team News

Jacob Ramsey is suspended for Newcastle following his red card in their 2-1 Premier League victory at home to Manchester United.

Nick Woltemade (illness) and Sandro Tonali (cramp) could be in contention but Emil Krafth, Lewis Miley (both knee), Bruno Guimaraes, Tino Livramento (both hamstring) and Fabian Schar (ankle) remain absent.

Man City could welcome Nico O’Reilly back into contention after he sat out their 2-2 Premier League draw at home to Nottingham Forest, due to an ankle injury.

Max Alleyne (knock), Josko Gvardiol (leg) and Mateo Kovacic (foot) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Newcastle host Man City at St James’ Park on Saturday 7 March at 8pm GMT, live on TNT Sports 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Newcastle are unbeaten in eight of 12 total FA Cup meetings against Man City (W6, D2, L4), albeit across 10 ties – after two ties needed replays – of which they won six of those 10 ties (W6, L4).
  • Man City have avoided defeat in four of their six FA Cup away games against Newcastle played at St James’ Park (W2, D2, L2).
  • City have won their last two FA Cup ties against Newcastle by 2-0 results, albeit at Quarter-Finals stages in 2019-20 and 2023-24 seasons of which the Cityzens failed to win the title on both occasions.
  • Newcastle have scored three goals in each of their two FA Cup ties this season against fellow top-flight opposition, as they defeated Bournemouth on penalties after 3-3 draw in third round then won 3-1 at Aston Villa in fourth round.
  • Man City have scored 12 goals and conceded one goal in their two FA Cup matches this season (W2).

Prediction

Having been soundly beaten by Man City three times already in 2026; having lost both legs of their Carabao Cup semi-final then 2-1 in the league a fortnight ago, Newcastle must surely think lightning doesn’t strike four times in a short period but they will have to be clinical and organised if want to advance.

Man City meanwhile probably are coming into this tie knowing that they psychologically have the Magpies between their bite, yet that can be a dangerous thing if they approach this in a complacent manner and turn up expecting to naturally win the tie.

Both teams though brutal first legs of their Champions League’s Round of 16 ties in midweek on their mind so will view the FA Cup as their best chance of a trophy, so I expect this to be close but it is tough to not bet against City on pure quality.

Prediction: Newcastle 1-2 Man City

Result: Newcastle 1-3 Man City
