Brighton & Hove Albion manager, Fabian Hurzeler is “disappointed” with his team’s 1-0 loss to Crystal Palace.

Ismaila Sarr’s 61st-minute winner for Palace settled a tight low-quality contest at the AMEX Stadium where both teams put a combined six of 14 shots onto target, having delivered seven shots apiece – of which Brighton put just two of their shots towards the target.

The result dropped Brighton to 14th in the Premier League table and eight points above the relegation zone.

Hurzeler post-match explained to UK broadcaster, Sky Sports that his team simply weren’t clinical enough and failed to respond to falling behind to Sarr’s goal which left his “disappointed” at the manner of their performance.

“I think we didn’t have plenty of chances but controlled the game. We came into good areas but didn’t finalise it and we made one mistake. We had wrong decisions when we conceded and then afterwards, we looked quite fragile.

“We didn’t show the right reactions, which was disappointing. It was not good enough today. We are all disappointed. The loss of energy, the loss of intensity, I was not happy because it just was not good enough.

“We were in the right places but you need to finalise and finish an attack and that is something we definitely need to improve.”

Hurzeler proceeded to explain that mentality within the team must shift ahead of their Premier League trip to Aston Villa on Wednesday 11 February (19:30pm GMT), but explained that players can show their emotions to jeering from the home crowd but need to work out how to improve.

“Football is in a big part played in your mind. When the mind is not in the perfect place then of course you lack confidence and that is something we have to face. You get confidence back with good results and to get good results you have to work hard.”

“Everyone is allowed to share their emotions. It is not an easy moment to handle. I need to face this adversity and face these boos and I need to commit to the club and I am 100% committed. All I can promise is that we will find solutions. For me personally it is not the main thing. I try to absorb all the criticism on me because I am responsible.”
