Brentford Head Coach, Keith Andrews is proud of the Bees’ “very impressive” 3-0 home win against Sunderland to go fifth in the Premier League.

Igor Thiago’s brace saw him become the highest-scoring Brazilian in a single Premier League season, before Yehor Yarmoliuk wrapped up Brentford’s dominant win over Sunderland.

The result meant that Brentford went fifth after Manchester United drew 2-2 at Burnley and Chelsea lost 2-1 at Fulham, which marked the Bees’ highest Premier League position since they were fourth after matchweek 2 in 2023-24 season.

“I’m really pleased, it was a really good performance,” explained Andrews in his post-match presser, as he praised his players for their attitude despite the heavy fixture schedule – as is traditional at this stage of the season.

“I thought the lads were excellent in the way they approached it: they attacked the game. At this time of year, games can become a bit sluggish, just because of the nature of how quickly they come, and I didn’t want it to feel like that tonight.

“I wanted us to be proactive and I thought we were; after 10/15 minutes, we were moving the ball more quickly and really causing them problems.

“It was a very impressive performance.”

Midfielder, Vitaly Janelt set up Thiago’s opening goal and having seen the Bees’ rise from Championship to Premier League and now sat fifth – which is their highest Premier League position outside of August, the 25-year-old German is pleased with the team’s development.

“I’ve seen everything from the Championship to now. It makes me proud and I just want to keep going.”
