Burnley continue their fight for Premier League survival against Manchester United at Turf Moor.
Victory will lift Burnley up to 18th in the table, whilst Man Utd can climb to fourth with a win if Chelsea fail to win at Fulham.
Team News
Maxime Esteve could return for Burnley after his recovery from a muscle injury which forced him to miss their 2-0 loss at Brighton.
Lyle Foster and Hannibal Mejbri could return from international duty after South Africa and Tunisia’s exits at Africa Cup of Nations.
Axel Tuanzebe (international duty), Zian Flemming, Joe Worrall (both knock), Zeki Amdouni (knee), Josh Cullen (ACL), Conor Roberts (Achilles) and Jordan Beyer (hamstring) remain sidelined.
Man Utd could welcome Mason Mount (knock) and Bruno Fernandes (hamstring) back subject to late fitness checks, after the pair failed to prove their fitness ahead of United’s 1-1 draw at Leeds.
Kobbie Mainoo (calf), Noussair Mazraoui, Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo (all international duty), Matthijs De Ligt (back) and Harry Maguire (muscle) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Burnley host Man Utd at Turf Moor on Wednesday 7 January at 8:15pm GMT, live on Sky Sports Premier League in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Burnley are winless in their last seven league meetings against Man Utd (D2, L5).
- Man Utd have avoided defeat in their last eight visits to Burnley (W6, D2).
- Man Utd have won two of their last three visits to Burnley by 1-0 results, whilst the other match in that period ended in a 1-1 draw.
- Kyle Walker has made more interceptions than any other Burnley player this season (26).
- Matheus Cunha has scored in three of Utd’s last five games (W1, D3, L1).
Prediction
Having been outplayed at Brighton with little quality going forward, Burnley now need to really produce a more attacking display if they’re to get anything from this tricky-looking game, yet they will need to be defensively solid because Utd are still dangerous despite their shaky defence.
Utd though surprisingly sacked Ruben Amorim on Monday so it will be interesting if his exit gives them more spark to go and out and deliver a proper attacking performance, but they need to showcase more trickery because their last two games have felt static with sloppy marking of goals.
Throw in freezing temperatures at Turf Moor and this does feel like it might be a game where a good start could be key but given how inconsistent Man Utd are, I wouldn’t be shocked if Burnley nick a point if they do make those improvements.
Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Man Utd
Result: Burnley 2-2 Man Utd
