Bromley continue their surprise promotion chase with a huge home encounter against relegation-battling Newport County in 2025-26 Sky Bet League Two.
Victory would keep Bromley top of the table, although a draw would be enough if Swindon and Walsall fail to win by three goals or more elsewhere.
Newport can move out of the relegation zone with a win if results elsewhere swing in their favour.
Team News
Bromley could be without striker, Michael Cheek after he was substituted in their 3-1 victory at Crawley on Monday evening, due to cramp.
Carl Jenkinson is the only definite absentee as he continues to rebuild his fitness following a serious hip injury in late July.
Newport have no fresh injury concerns to report after their 2-0 victory at home to Crewe Alexandra, but Ben Lloyd could be absent as his loan deal from Swansea expires on New Year’s Day.
Liam Shephard (hamstring) and Gerard Garner (muscle) remain absent.
When is Kick-Off?
Bromley host Newport at Copperjax Stadium on New Year’s Day 2026 at 3pm GMT, live on Sky Sports+ in the UK.
Stat Attack
- Bromley are yet to lose to Newport in the EFL (W1, D1).
- Newport lost 5-2 in their only previous EFL visit to Bromley on Boxing Day 2024.
- Michael Cheek scored in each of Bromley’s meetings against Newport last season.
- Andy Woodman’s Ravens are unbeaten in their last 14 league matches at home (W10, D4).
- Newport are unbeaten in five of their last six league visits to London-based opposition (W1, D4, L1), with their sole defeat in that period having come at Bromley last season.
Prediction
Now sat top of the table for the first time in the EFL after a clinical display at Crawley, this is unchartered territory for Bromley who will have to find a way to deal with the pressures and expectation, but I just want to see them play with the same intensity and press as they’re doing currently.
Newport meanwhile have kept clean sheets in their last two matches but this is going to be a huge defensive test in terms of weathering Bromley’s strong attacking press across the pitch, especially given the contrast in confidence and form so a resilient effort and scoring first feels imperative.
Christian Fuchs’ Exiles also has a strong record away to London-based opposition last season aside from their trip here last season when they lost 5-2 on Boxing Day, which some players will not wish to remember but if Bromley turn up and quickly impose themselves then this could be a long afternoon for Newport.
Prediction: Bromley 3-1 Newport County
Result: Bromley 2-1 Newport County
