2025-26 Premier League: Week 19 – Burnley vs Newcastle

Burnley continue their fight for Premier League survival at home to Newcastle United.

Victory could lift Burnley up to 18th if West Ham fail to win elsewhere, whilst Newcastle can go as high as ninth if results elsewhere go in their favour.

Team News

Josh Cullen is ruled out for Burnley after he suffered a knee injury in their goalless draw against Everton.

Maxime Esteve and Joe Worrall are doubtful due to knocks.

Lyle Foster, Axel Tuanzebe, Hannibal Mejbri (all international duty), Zeki Amdouni (knee), Conor Roberts (Achilles) and Jordan Beyer (hamstring) remain sidelined.

Newcastle will again be without Anthony Elanga after he missed their defeat at Manchester United due to a knock.

Nick Pope was set to return to the starting line-up at Old Trafford but illness saw him drop to the bench instead as an unused substitute.

Dan Burn (rib/lung), Jamaal Lascelles (muscle), Emil Krafth, Tino Livramento (both knee), Sven Botman (back), William Osula (ankle) and Kieran Trippier (hamstring) remain absent.

When is Kick-Off?

Burnley host Newcastle at Turf Moor on Tuesday 30 December at 7:30pm GMT, live on Sky Sports Tennis in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Burnley are winless in their last eight league meetings against Newcastle (D1, L7).
  • Newcastle have lost one of their last five trips to Burnley (W4, L1).
  • Newcastle’s Bruno Guimaraes has scored in each of his last two appearances against Burnley (W2).
  • Victory or draw would see Burnley go three Premier League games without defeat for the first time since April 2024.
  • Sandro Tonali has been booked in each of Newcastle’s last two away games (L2).

Prediction

With two draws in their last two matches coupled with improved attacking displays in both outings, Burnley should quietly feel confident that they can get a win if they can just be more composed in their final touches than they were against Everton.

Newcastle meanwhile just were unlucky to not get anything against an inspired Man Utd defence whilst a moment of weak marking from a set-piece clearance cost them, so I do expect them to produce a serious response at a ground where they’ve recently gone well at.

I however do think that Burnley will have enough quality to grind out another draw if they can just find that final clinical touch, particularly given Newcastle’s inconsistency on the road.

Prediction: Burnley 1-1 Newcastle

Result: Burnley 1-3 Newcastle
