Crystal Palace’s goalkeeper, Walter Benitez is “disappointed” in their Carabao Cup Quarter-Final exit at Arsenal.

Benitez made seven saves in a scrappy contest which finished 1-1 after Marc Guehi’s finish forced penalties in a 1-1 draw against Mikel Arteta’s Gunners, but Maxence Lacroix missed Palace’s eighth penalty in a 8-7 defeat in the shootout after his own-goal had initially put Arsenal in front.

“We are not so happy with this result, but we are happy for the second-half,” commented Benitez in a post-match interview with Palace TV as he credited his teammates for their performance.

“We played very well and I’m happy for this, because the team proved it in every game. We played so well. Today we proved it in the second-half and this is the most important point today.

“Of course, after penalties, it’s 50/50, and we are disappointed with this one, but we’ll continue to work.”

Benitez also vowed to keep working hard to help Palace end their now four-match winless streak across all competitions.

“I tried to enjoy it, but it’s always difficult. I’m happy for this game because I want to help the team.

“The team also helped me in some situations in the game. I’m happy for this.

“I’m not so happy for the final result, but it’s important to keep this spirit together and continue the hard work.”
