2025-26 Premier League: Week 15 – Newcastle vs Burnley

Top-ten chasing Newcastle United host relegation-battling Burnley in an important Premier League clash.

Victory could lift Newcastle as high as seventh if Everton and Tottenham both fail to win elsewhere, whilst Burnley can move up to third bottom with a win and to within one point of safety.

Team News

Sandro Tonali is a doubt for Newcastle after he suffered a knock during their 2-2 draw against Tottenham.

Emil Krafth and Yoane Wissa could feature if either player pass a late fitness check.

Sven Botman (back), Nick Pope (groin), William Osula (ankle), Kieran Trippier and Harrison Ashby (both hamstring) remain absent.

Burnley could be without Axel Tuanzebe after he missed their 1-0 home defeat to Crystal Palace due to a muscle injury.

Hannibal Mejbri is suspended after he was given a four-match suspension for a spitting incident in October.

Zeki Amdouni (knee), Conor Roberts (Achilles) and Jordan Beyer (hamstring) remain sidelined.

When is Kick-Off?

Newcastle host Burnley at St James’ Park on Saturday 6 December at 3pm GMT, untelevised live in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Newcastle are unbeaten in their last seven league meetings against Burnley (W6, D1).
  • Burnley are yet to claim a Premier League win away at Newcastle (D3, L4).
  • Out of Newcastle’s five individual goalscorers against Burnley in 2023-24 season, only Bruno Guimaraes remains at the club.
  • Eddie Howe’s Magpies have scored first in their last six league games at home (W4, D1, L1).
  • Burnley’s Zian Flemming has scored four goals in their last three away matches (W1, L2).

Prediction

After twice blowing their lead against Tottenham through some sloppy defensive play, Newcastle will be glad to again be at home with a chance to atone if can cut out the errors in a game where they should be capable of targeting Burnley’s vulnerable defence.

Burnley however did well to limit Palace to a single-goal victory with a stubborn defensive effort in the first half, before they just lacked the crucial final touches to get at least a draw in the second half against some well-executed late-ditch defending from the Eagles.

I however don’t see Burnley having enough to stop Newcastle’s depth of attacking threats, so this is probably a case of trying to limit the hosts but still try and take their own chances.

Prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Burnley

Result: Newcastle 2-1 Burnley
