2025-26 FA Cup: Second Round – Sutton vs Shrewsbury

Sutton United look to cause a cupset as they entertain Shrewsbury Town in the second round of 2025-26 FA Cup.

Victory would see Sutton reach the third round for the second time in three seasons, whilst Shrewsbury are looking to progress past this stage for the eighth time in nine seasons.

Team News

Osman Foyo won’t be available for Sutton after his loan from AFC Wimbledon was terminated, following suspension from all footballing activity due to various betting-related breaches during his time at Ipswich.

Jack Wadham, Alex Woodyard (both knee) and Liam Vincent (ankle) are sidelined.

Shrewsbury have no fresh injury concerns after their 3-3 draw at home to Gillingham in League Two.

Bradley Ihionvien remains absent with a knee injury.

When is Kick-Off?

Sutton host Shrewsbury at Gander Green Lane on Saturday 6 December at 5:15pm GMT, live on BBC Two and TNT Sports 1 in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • This is Sutton’s first-ever competitive meeting against Shrewsbury in all competitions.
  • Shrewsbury are making their first competitive visit to Sutton.
  • David Ogbonna has scored in each of Sutton’s last two FA Cup matches (W2).
  • Shrewsbury have won four of their last six away FA Cup ties (W4, L2).

Prediction

Sat three points above the relegation zone and with one clean sheet in their last 12 games across all competitions, Sutton know that this tie is a free hit because they clearly have the attacking quality to cause a cupset and progress but their defence is clearly fragile and survival is a priority.

Shrewsbury though have their own relegation worries as they sit one point above the drop in League Two and are joint-fifth lowest scoring teams in their division, yet they managed to use their superior quality to dispatch South Shields in the first round which has to give them some belief.

Defending however is equally an issue for both teams who have relegation worries in their respective leagues but Sutton don’t have a midweek game after this tie, so I fancy them to edge this as they will have little to lose in terms of energy unlike their visitors.

Prediction: Sutton 2-1 Shrewsbury
