Down in the relegation zone, rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday’s hopes of staging a miraculous great escape were dealt a blow as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to third-bottom and local rivals – Sheffield United, as Tyrese Campbell’s brace and Tom Cannon’s strike proved enough for Chris Wilder’s Blades.

Portsmouth moved four points clear of the drop with a 3-1 victory at home to Millwall as Zak Swanson’s effort and Tristian Crama’s own-goal put them in control, before Jordon Williams netted a 89th-minute winner after Mihailo Ivanovic pulled a goal back following Joe Bryan’s red card for the visitors.

Elsewhere, Finn Azaz’s brace plus goals from Ryan Manning, Adam Armstrong and Caspar Jander saw Southampton cruise to a 5-1 victory at Charlton in a first-half thriller, which saw Lloyd Jones’ header deny them a clean sheet.

Luca Kjerrumgaard’s effort and Edo Kayembe’s brace saw Watford snatch a comeback 3-2 victory at Derby, after Dion Sanderson and Sondre Langas had put the Rams in control with their first goals for the club.

Finally, Ipswich played out a goalless draw at home to Wrexham.
