Sheffield Wednesday host Sheffield United in a crucial Steel City derby at the foot of the 2025-26 Sky Bet Championship.
Victory will move rock-bottom Sheffield Wednesday move to within 11 points of Sheffield Utd, whilst Chris Wilder’s Blades will stay third-bottom irrespective of the result but a win would put them within one point of safety.

Stat Attack
- Sheffield Wednesday are winless in their last six meetings against Sheffield Utd (D3, L3).
- Sheffield Utd have lost one of their last five visits to Sheffield Wednesday (W2, D2, L1).
- Chris Wilder’s Blades won both meetings against the Owls by 1-0 results last season.
- Sheffield Wednesday are yet to win at home this season (D2, L6).
- Sheffield Utd have won two of their last five away games (W2, L3).
Prediction
Currently facing a massive uphill battle to overcome their points deficit, Sheffield Wednesday are winless in their last nine matches and were just outplayed in their 3-1 loss at Southampton, which underlines the importance of winning games against those around them if want to miraculously stay up.
Sheffield Utd though are themselves in a relegation scrap and know that victory here would be a huge blow for their local rivals, but survival nevertheless is the bigger priority and they can take heart from how they dominated their goalless draw at home to QPR amidst wasteful finishing.
Given everything that is at stake for both clubs coming into this local derby, I expect this to be quite nervy initially but if Sheffield Utd can fine-tune their finishing touches, they should have too much for the Owls.
Prediction: Sheffield Wednesday 1-2 Sheffield United
Result: Sheffield Wednesday 0-3 Sheffield United
