2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifying: Scotland vs Denmark

Scotland host Denmark in a blockbuster top of 2026 FIFA World Cup’s UEFA Qualifying Group C showdown.

Victory would see Scotland leapfrog Denmark to the Group C summit and qualify automatically for the World Cup, otherwise they’re headed for the play-offs.

Denmark simply need to avoid defeat to achieve automatic qualification at Scotland’s expense.

Team News

Scotland have no fresh injury concerns to report ahead of this match, although manager – Steve Clarke could make some changes after a disappointing 3-2 away loss to Greece.

Billy Gilmour missed that trip due to an adductor injury and has been ruled out of this game too.

Denmark could be without Joachim Andersen and Rasmus Hojlund after the pair missed their 2-2 draw against Belarus due to illness.

When is Kick-Off?

Scotland host Denmark at Hampden Park on Tuesday 18 November in a 7:45pm GMT kick-off, live on BBC Scotland in Scotland, plus BBC Two in rest of UK.

Stat Attack

  • Scotland have avoided defeat in four of their five previous World Cup Qualifiers against Denmark (W3, D1, L1).
  • Denmark have lost their two previous World Cup away qualifiers against Scotland by 2-0 results in November 1972 and November 2021 respectively (L2).
  • Scotland have kept clean sheets in their last two meetings against Denmark (W1, D1).
  • Ryan Christie has scored in two of Scotland’s last three matches.
  • Mikkel Damsgaard has scored in three of Denmark’s last four matches.

Prediction

Scotland simply can’t repeat their defensive shambles which saw Greece rip them apart before they found their attacking edge in a futile fightback, where they did rush some of their late chances in an attempt to snatch a draw so more composure up top is needed alongside tighter defending.

Denmark meanwhile should of smashed Belarus yet they only converted 10 of 35 shots onto target – of which two shots found the net, whilst their own defence did have a sloppy meltdown which allowed Belarus to nearly cause a upset so they too need to be more solid defensively.

This clash however is do-or-die for Scotland because they simply have to go out and attack this game with view to ideally scoring first, whereas Denmark have their destiny in their own hands so can afford to go a bit defensive and invite the hosts’ pressure.

Denmark however are yet to score away to Scotland in World Cup Qualifying so I do think that this will be scrappy, but the home crowd could well be the difference if can bring the same noise as they did late on in Greece.

Prediction: Scotland 2-1 Denmark

Result: Scotland 4-2 Denmark
