Wolverhampton Wanderers have sacked Vitor Pereira as manager after a winless start to the Premier League season.
Although Pereira oversaw Wolves’ run to the fourth round of this season’s Carabao Cup where they lost 4-3 at home to Chelsea, they are winless after ten league games which has left them sat bottom of the table with two draws and eight defeats following a 3-0 loss at Fulham yesterday (1 November).
Wolves consequently have sacked Pereira after nearly 11 months in charge, with the Portuguese having led them to top-flight survival following his arrival in December 2024, which included league doubles over Leicester and Manchester United last season.
Chairman, Jeff Shi issued a statement thanking Pereira for his efforts to try and reverse the club’s form but admitted that a change is needed in order to have a shot at survival.
“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful.
“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.
“We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”
The announcement came just under two months after Pereira signed a new contract at Molineux, underlining the serious concerns within the board about the club’s form.
Wolves’ Under-21s and Under-18s Head Coaches, James Collins and Richard Walker will take training until a successor is named.
