Bromley assistant manager, Steve Aris felt that they deserved their 3-3 draw against Tranmere in “tough” weather conditions.
Despite strong winds caused by Storm Amy battering the UK, Bromley twice led through Kyle Cameron and Nicke Kabamba either side of Nathan Smith’s equalising overhead kick, which saw manager – Andy Woodman red carded for his protests at the goal’s allowance.
Michael Cheek’s 49th-minute penalty extended the Ravens’ lead but Omari Patrick and Cameron Norman rescued Tranmere a point in a scrappy draw, despite a late red card for Bromley’s Byron Webster in the 71st minute but they moved up to 13th in the League Two table.
Aris consequently took the post-match interview following Woodman’s red card and felt that the draw was “disappointing” given that they had built a 3-1 lead.
“Yeah an entertaining fan for the fans I suppose. Um, conditions were really tough today. Like the winds were blowing a gale out there. Uh two teams just dogged rewards going. That’s it. Disappointing. We got into a really good position and we just didn’t hang onto three points.
“We went 3-1 up, which is the disappointment in there.”
It is the second home game in Bromley’s last three league matches at the Copperjax Stadium in which they blew a two-goal lead, having previously let a 2-0 lead slip against Gillingham in early September to draw 2-2 with Aris frustrated at another slip-up.
“Yeah, that’s it. That’s the thing we got to take out of our game. Uh, we keep getting in good positions and we keep just giving goals away at times when we the worst time for us. So yeah, as a group we just got to look at it, focus and take moments that when we do go up, we just need to cut it out.
“If you go two or three minutes and you can concede straight away, it knocks us out of it. So really disappointed in that aspect. Um and something we’ll be looking at.”
Like many teams across the country, Bromley felt the effects of the strong winds which affected set pieces for both teams although Aris believed that the set plays are a big part of the team’s style.
“I think we work on it’s a big part of our game, big part of our team, and a big part of why we got here. We’ve got good quality in both sides and we got giants and a player. So really good in one aspect that yes, they are golden nuggets for us.
“We score a lot of goals from set plays and we look threatening everything today with the conditions. We looking really threatening every time we had a corner or throw-in today.”
Many fans felt that Bromley had dropped two points which could be vital come end of season which Aris partially agreed with, but felt that a draw was a solid result after Webster’s red card and praised his players for trying to force a late winner despite being a man down.
“Go from circumstances of going 3-1 up, yes you would. But then playing the last 15 minutes with ten men. Um then you go in the other one we’ve done well to hang on for a point. But um take it out of the game it becomes a good point if we get three next week at Crewe.
“Yeah we changed little bits and pieces. We tweaked. We went negative. Then we went try and be positive. We thought there was still another goal in the game. We tried to push to try and get that. We’ve uh went two up top to steal to try and keep control of the game and try and look for an opportunity, try and get a winner. We’re still pushing to try and get a winner.
“We had chances at the end there and we still look like we’ve created chances. So, yeah, proud of the 10 that was out there to finish it off um and our chances still to go and get a win at the game.”
The game also marked the reopening of the East Stand which underwent renovation to meet EFL regulations, with Aris pleased to see fans back behind the dugout after an eight-month closure of the stand.
“Brilliant to see. Yeah. See fans in behind us again. It’s full with a bit of noise really adds to the atmosphere of the ground and it’s just the ever development of Bromley Football club happen. So yeah, really good moment for that and the crowd and the fans were happy to be out there and have it open and for us it just generates a bit of noise and that behind us.
“So it was really good today. Yeah. Brilliant.
