McLaren’s Oscar Piastri topped Friday Practice for 2025 Singapore Grand Prix.

Piastri finished fifth in FP1 which was surprisingly topped by Aston Martin’s Fernando Alonso, but rebounded to top FP2 from Isack Hadjar in a session disrupted by two red flags and a pit-lane collision.

FP1

Racing Bulls’ Liam Lawson was first on track and set 1m 38.637 as the immediate benchmark time as everyone except the Aston Martin pair opted to run the hard tyre in their opening stints, whilst Verstappen soon exchanged fastest laps with Isack Hadjar and Lewis Hamilton.

Norris, Carlos Sainz and Piastri soon set the fastest laps in quick succession, until Alonso on the medium tyre posted 1m 33.592 to go top in the 15th minute, but Norris responded five minutes later to go quickest by 0.099 seconds from the Spaniard.

Alonso however hit back on the half-hour mark with 1m 32.054 to sit top but Sainz displaced him by 0.242s just a minute later as he switched to the medium tyre for his second stint,

Leclerc however was amongst the first runners to jump to the soft tyre and posted 1m 31.266 with 23 minutes left to set the pace.

Alonso however left it until 11 minutes left to top the session with 1m 31.116 as teams switched to race simulations, amidst a threat of rain for FP2.

Williams’ Alex Albon however only managed one lap before a rear brake hardware issue curtailed his running after just six minutes.

FP2

Hulkenberg was first on track as in the representative night session and immediately set 1m 33.788 as the majority opted for the medium tyre opening stint, as Piastri, Antonelli and Norris traded fastest laps which Norris eventually won out with 1m 32.226 in the 11th minute.

Piastri however responded with 1m 31.716 just six minutes later to go fastest from Norris by 0.007s but Russell suffered a freak snap through Turns 16 and 17 moments later, which brought out the red flags due to his front wing falling off upon impact with barriers.

The session resumed after a 11-minute delay as some drivers opted to stay on the medium tyre whilst others opted to run the soft tyre, which saw Hamilton displace Piastri with 1m 31.491 on the medium tyre but Ocon found 0.011s to set the benchmark time of 1m 31.480 in the 33rd minute.

Lawson however struck the outside wall on the exit of Turn 17 which caused enough damage to his right rear suspension, and in-turn forced him to stop his Racing Bull car in the pit entry lane and another red flag.

The session resumed a further 11 minutes later but amidst the scramble to get track position in the queue, Leclerc recklessly ploughed Norris into the pit wall as he exited his Ferrari garage.

Hadjar meanwhile lowered the benchmark time to 1m 31.440 with nine minutes left, but Alonso posted 1m 30.877 to fastest briefly before Verstappen found 0.020s to go even quicker with 1m 30.857.

Piastri eventually topped the session with 1m 30.714 ahead of Hadjar and Verstappen.
