Roundup of the first midweek round of 2025-26 Sky Bet Championship.

Middlesbrough continued to sit atop of the table despite having held third-placed Stoke to a goalless draw at the Riverside Stadium.

Haji Wright’s brace plus late goals from Ellis Simms and Kaine Kesler-Hayden saw Coventry stay second with a 4-0 victory at Millwall.

Josh Maja’s 20th-minute close-range winner saw West Brom climb to fourth with a 1-0 win away at Norwich.

Bristol City slipped to fifth after they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Ipswich as Rob Atkinson’s 18th-minute header was cancelled out by Jack Clarke’s penalty.

Leicester rounded out the top six with a 1-1 draw at home to Wrexham after Jordan James’ side-footed opening goal was cancelled out by Nathan Broadhead’s 77th-minute equaliser.

Down in the relegation zone, Sheffield United remained rock bottom with a 2-1 defeat at home to Southampton – having led through Tyrese Campbell’s first-half opener, before Ross Stewart’s brace sealed the Saints’ second-half comeback after the hosts’ manager – Chris Wilder was red carded at half-time for a shot into the stands.

Jamal Lowe and George Brown netted for second-bottom Sheffield Wednesday in a 2-2 draw at Birmingham City, having fell behind to Jay Stansfield’s opener before Demarai Gray salvaged a point for the hosts with a 99th-minute equaliser.

Oxford United moved out of the relegation zone on goal difference with a goalless draw at QPR.

Blackburn consequently slipped to third-bottom with a 2-1 defeat at home to Swansea, having initially led through Todd Cantwell’s header before Goncalo Franco’s volley and Liam Cullen’s strike sealed the Swans’ comeback.

Elsewhere, Oli McBurnie’s brace saw Hull come from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 at home to Preston after Thierry Small and Michael Smith put the visitors ahead in the opening ten minutes.

Adrian Segecic rescued Portsmouth a 2-2 draw at home to Watford after Yang Min-Hyeok’s fifth-minute opener was cancelled out by Imran Louza, before Rocco Vata put the Hornets ahead from behind in the 56th minute.

Matt Clarke’s header saw Derby snatch a comeback 1-1 draw at home to Charlton after the Addicks had led through James Bree’s 37th-minute strike.
