Hiyu Yamakoshi has joined Van Amersfoort Racing for the 2026 F3 season.

Yamakoshi is already part of Van Amersfoort Racing (VAR) stable, having driven for them in various categories since 2023, and has impressed enough to secure a promotion to the Dutch outfit’s F3 line-up for next season.

The 18-year-old Japanese driver is thankful to be given the opportunity and believes that his continuity with VAR will be “really helpful” as he adapts to the category.

First of all, I would like to say thank you to everyone who gave me this opportunity. This will be my third year working with VAR which I think is going to be really helpful for my first FIA F3 season.”

VAR Team Principal, Brad Jones added; “We’re pleased to continue our journey with Hiyu as he steps up to FIA Formula 3.

“He’s been great to work with so far, a hard worker with a professional approach, and we’re confident he will adjust well to this next step on the international stage.”

Yamakoshi will make his F3 bow in the post-season tests at Jerez, Barcelona and Imola on 7-8, 15-16 and 21-22 October respectively, with Joyce confident that the tests will lay foundations for the youngster going into 2026.

“The upcoming tests will be his first chance to get behind the wheel of the F3 machinery and lay the groundwork for a strong season ahead. We’re looking forward to supporting his development and are confident we can achieve great results together.”

Yamakoshi began his single-seater career with VAR in F4 UAE with two top-ten finishes, before he went on to race in French F4 where he claimed five podium finishes to finish fifth overall, whilst he ran a dual campaign in Spanish F4 in which he competed in six of eight rounds.

2024 saw him make a one-round appearance in F4 UAE and Spanish F4 amidst full-time Italian F4 and Euro 4 campaigns, of which he achieved two wins in each of the latter two categories en-route to third and fourth in the standings respectively.

This season saw him step up to Formula Regional Middle East for the final three rounds ahead of his full-time Formula Regional European Championship campaign, where he currently lies eighth with two podium finishes.

Yamakoshi has also sporadically participated in selected GB3 rounds this season with Hillspeed Racing with seven top-ten finishes in nine races.
