Max Verstappen believes that his victory in Monza, Italy, has given Red Bull a confidence “boost” heading into the 2025 Azerbaijan Grand Prix.
Verstappen dominated the 2025 Italian GP to finish 19.207 seconds clear of McLaren’s Lando Norris after conceded the lead on lap 2 following a first-lap incident, before he reclaimed the lead two laps later en-route to his eventual victory.
The 27-year old Dutchman consequently feels that the win marked “a good step forward” with the car’s setup and has boosted their confidence going into the final eight rounds of the season.
“Monza was an incredible race for us and we made a good step forward with where we want to be with the setup of the car.
“The win has been a huge boost for everyone and I have been back at the factory this week to celebrate with the Team, which has been great, and have been on the sim to prepare for the next race.”
Verstappen however iterated in Red Bull’s preview for the Azerbaijan GP that he believes that the Baku City Circuit will pose “bit more of a challenge” for the team in terms of balancing the setup and downforce.
“The combination of low-speed corners and the long main straight means you have to find a compromise in the setup, and it is about getting the right rear wing level as well. Hopefully we can take this positive form into this week and make sure we perform well in Qualifying too.”
Verstappen’s teammate, Yuki Tsunoda added that both he and Verstappen will have to be at their best to maximise their result, such is the unpredictability of the circuit with potential for surprises like safety cars and red flags in the event of incidents.
“Baku is a fun, challenging circuit, that can throw up a lot of surprises. You really have to be focussed and on it here to make the most of it and that’s what I will be coming into the weekend aiming to do.”
