Trident have signed Martinius Stenshorne and Laurens van Hoepen as replacement drivers for the 2025 F2 Azerbaijan round.

Sami Meguetounif and Max Esterson were released last Saturday (13 September) due to a poor campaign which left the team rock bottom with just two points on the board.

Trident consequently have called up Stenshorne and Van Hoepen to replace the duo for the trip to Baku from 19-21 September.

Stenshorne finished fifth in the F3 drivers’ standings with two wins this season and is “very proud” to get a promotion to F2 with Trident for the trip to Baku.

“This is an exciting opportunity, and I can’t wait to get on track with the team on such a unique and challenging circuit. I will give it everything and try to learn as much as possible from this new experience.”

Van Hoepen meanwhile finished 12th in F3 with a pair of third-placed sprint finishes in Monaco and Monza as his best results of the campaign, but the 20-year-old Dutchman is aware that Baku will be a tough test which will give him experience to build upon.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to step up to the next category at such a technical and spectacular circuit like Baku. It will be a valuable experience that I can build on for the future.”

Trident Team Principal, Giacomo Ricci is “delighted” to welcome McLaren junior, Stenshorne plus Van Hoepen to the team but is aware that Baku is no easy debut track for the pair.

“Making their debut in Baku will certainly be a big challenge, as neither of them has experience with a Formula 2 car or the circuit itself.

“We are fully focused on preparing for the event. At the same time, we want to sincerely thank Sami Meguetounif and Max Esterson, and wish them all the best in their future careers.”
