2025-26 Premier League: Week Four – Burnley vs Liverpool

Burnley entertain table-topping Liverpool at Turf Moor in a Premier League matchup.

Victory will lift Burnley into the top ten, whilst Liverpool will stay top with a win.

Team News

Hjalmar Ekdal is set to feature for Burnley after recovering from a knock suffered on international duty for Sweden.

Zeki Amdouni (ACL), Jordan Beyer, Conor Roberts (both knee) remain absent.

Liverpool could welcome Jeremie Frimpong back after he missed their last two games with a hamstring injury.

Curtis Jones however is ruled out after he suffered a knock in their win over Arsenal.

Alexander Isak could make his debut following his £125m move from Newcastle on deadline day.

When is Kick-Off?

Burnley host Liverpool at Turf Moor on Sunday 14 September at 2pm BST, live on Sky Sports Main Event and Premier League in the UK.

Stat Attack

  • Burnley have lost each of their last five meetings against Liverpool (L5).
  • Liverpool have won eight of their nine previous Premier League trips to Burnley (W8, L1).
  • Burnley have conceded nine goals in their last four home games against Liverpool without reply (L4).
  • Jaidon Anthony has scored in each of Burnley’s last two league matches (W1, L1).
  • Liverpool are looking to keep consecutive clean sheets for the first time since February 2025.

Prediction

Having produced a gutsy fightback to twice peg Manchester United back before their eventual injury-time defeat, Burnley now need to bring that same spirit and intensity into this game because it is difficult otherwise to see them winning this game.

Liverpool manager, Arne Slot on the other hand faces a condundrum as to how to fit Mohamed Salah, Hugo Ekitike, Cody Gakpo and Isak into his starting eleven because the above trio are in strong form, yet Isak will be eager to start which could force Ekitike into the no.10 role.

Although I expect Burnley to go defensive and try to hit Liverpool on the counter-attack, Slot’s Reds should be too strong no matter how he approaches his team selection but if he does go for Isak up front and Ekitike playing deep, I can see just one result coming.

Prediction: Burnley 0-3 Liverpool

Result: Burnley 0-1 Liverpool
