Williams’ Alex Albon was delighted with his seventh-placed finish through “fantastic strategy” at the 2025 Italian Grand Prix.
Albon began the race from 14th position but was immediately promoted a position on the start after Sauber’s Nico Hulkenberg retired at the end of the formation lap with a hydraulic issue.
The Thai-Brit decided to go long on the alternative strategy as he ran the hard tyre until his pit stop on lap 41 for medium tyres, which allowed him to undercut Gabriel Bortoleto before he then got the cutback on Andrea Kimi Antonelli into Variante Della Roggia to take ninth on lap 45.
Albon eventually finished seventh once everyone completed their pit stops and praised Williams for their strategy and extraction of race pace.
“Today we had a fantastic strategy and great car pace,” explained Albon to williamsf1.com having expected a much tougher race on the alternative strategy.
“I think when you have the two together, you’re going to have a good time with it. Honestly, it was meant to be a tough race on paper but as we were the first car on Hard tyres, it was quite a comfortable race, and the car was nice to drive and really quick.
“I’d say it was one of the best Sundays balance-wise I’ve had all year. “In many parts of the race we were just as quick as the top teams, so it was a great comeback from a tough qualifying.”
