Winger, Alejandro Garnacho has completed a £40m transfer from Manchester United to Chelsea.

Garnacho’s move had been a long-running saga throughout the summer after he failed to start Utd’s last three matches last season, which proved disastrous as the Red Devils lost the UEFA Europa League Final to Tottenham and finished only 15th in the Premier League.

The 21-year-old Spanish-born Argentina international subsequently was left out of Utd’s first-team in pre-season before he eventually reintegrated into training – amidst lack of action over his desire to join Chelsea, until both clubs agreed a £40m fee plus 10% sell-on clause.

Garnacho subsequently signed a seven-year contract at Chelsea until June 2032 and is excited to be part of the FIFA Club World Cup champions.

“It’s an incredible moment for my family and I to join this great club. I can’t wait to get started. I watched the Club World Cup and to join the world champions is special – we’re the best team in the world! It’s amazing to be here and I’m very happy.

Garnacho began his career at Getafe before he moved to Atletico Madrid but failed to break through into their first-team squad and left for Utd in October 2020, where he signed his first professional contract in July 2021 and helped the Red Devils win 2021-22 FA Youth Cup.

He subsequently made his senior debut for Utd in October 2022 in a 3-0 home victory over Moldova’s Sheriff Tiraspol in that season’s Europa League Group Stage, before he eventually scored five goals in 34 first-team appearances that season as United won 2022-23 Carabao Cup.

Garnacho eventually went on to score 26 goals in 144 total appearances for Utd across the last three seasons and added further silverware at the end of 2023-24 season, when Utd beat Manchester City in the FA Cup Final with the winger having opened the scoring.

At international level, Garnacho represented Spain at Under-18s level before he switched allegiance to Argentina in 2022, initially at Under-20s level after a brief stint in the senior squad but he eventually broke through into the first team in 2023 and made his debut in a 2-0 friendly victory over Australia.

Garnacho has subsequently made eight appearances for Argentina and was part of their 2024 Copa America title-winning squad.
