Nottingham Forest have signed midfielder, Douglas Luiz in a £25m transfer from Juventus, albeit initially on a season-long loan.
Forest’s move has seen Luiz return to English football after just one season at Juventus, which saw him fail to score in 27 appearances as the Old Lady finished fourth in Italy’s Serie A.
His lacklustre performances ultimately saw Juventus accept a loss of £17.35m on the midfielder after they accepted an initial season-long loan plus £25m obligation to buy bid from Forest, having previously signed Luiz from Aston Villa for £42.35m in June 2024.
Luiz has signed a five-year contract at Forest until June 2031, which will commence once his season-long loan is completed next summer and is excited to be part of the club’s ambitions for the future, as they prepare for a first European campaign in 29 years.
“I am really happy to be here, it’s a big Club and I decided to come here because I can see the ambition the Club has. I am so excited to start with the team and give my best for the shirt and the fans.”
Forest’s Director of Football, Ross Wilson added: ““He’s played at the highest level for a long time, understands the demands of the Premier League, and has experience playing in elite European competition.
“We’re delighted that Douglas now joins the group, and we are sure that he will be warmly welcomed by everyone at Nottingham Forest.”
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Luiz began his career at Vasco da Gama where he graduated through their academy to make his senior debut in August 2016, before he went on to score five goals in 39 appearances across 11 months in the first-team squad.
July 2017 saw the Brazilian move to Manchester City but he spent two seasons on loan at Spain’s Girona before Villa signed him in July 2019.
His first season at Villa Park saw him net three goals in 42 appearances as the Villains finished runners-up in the League Cup against his former team, Man City.
Luiz went on to score 22 goals in 202 total appearances across five seasons at Villa, during which he scored ten goals in the 2023-24 season as Unai Emery’s Villains achieved Champions League qualification with a fourth-placed Premier League finish in his last campaign at the club.
