Brentford defender, Jayden Meghoma has joined Rangers on a season-long loan.

Meghoma’s loan switch will see him reunited with ex Southampton manager, Russell Martin under who he made four appearances in 2023-24 season.

The 19-year-old proceeded to join Brentford last summer where he made four appearances before he was loaned to Preston North End in January, in a move which saw him make 14 appearances and was part of the Lilywhites’ run to the FA Cup Quarter-Finals last season.

Meghoma is “very excited” to join “a fantastic club,” for the season which he considered to “be a fantastic opportunity for myself and my family.

Martin added: “I am really pleased to welcome Jayden to Rangers. I have worked with him before, and I know exactly what he brings. He is a young player with big potential, real athleticism and a great attitude.

“He is hungry to learn and improve, and I’m confident he’ll thrive in this environment. We’re excited to help him take the next step in his career here at Ibrox.”

Brentford’s Director of Football, Phil Giles explained that another loan was the best option to continue Meghoma’s development, such is the competitive battle for the senior full-back roles.

“The competition for places at full-back is very strong and we thought a loan might be the best way for him to develop this season. When this option came up, we thought it would be great for him.

“Jayden will be going into a high-pressure environment with the chance to compete for trophies and play European football. It is a great opportunity for him at a big club and I am sure he will relish it.”
