Burnley have signed midfielder, Lesley Ugochukwu from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee.
Ugochukwu’s move to Turf Moor comes after just two seasons at Chelsea following his transfer from Rennes in August 2023, but he managed just one season at Stamford Bridge in which he made 15 appearances before he spent last season on loan at Southampton.
Despite the Saints’ relegation, he managed one goal in 31 appearances whilst his performances proved enough to persuade Burnley to sign him for an undisclosed fee, with the 21-year-old having signed a five-year contract until June 2030.
“It’s a great feeling to sign for Burnley,” commented Ugochukwu who revealed that manager – Scott Parker plus France Under-21s teammate, Maxime Esteve persuaded him to make the move north.
“As soon as I was made aware of the club’s interest in signing me, I was keen to hear more about the project. I spoke to the manager and Maxime – they were both so passionate about the club and the direction it’s heading in.
“It feels like this is the perfect move for me at this stage of my career with the ambition the club is showing.
“It’s a really exciting time to be here and I can’t wait to get started. I’m really excited to pull on the Burnley shirt in the Premier League.”
Ugochukwu began his career at ASPTT Rennes before he spent a year with Cercle Paul Bert which led to his move to Rennes in 2012, where he graduated through their youth academy to score one goal in 60 senior appearances.
