Newcastle United Women have signed Polish defender, Malgorzata Grec on a free transfer from Dijon.

Grec has spent the last three seasons at Dijon where she made 58 appearances in all competitions, and helped the club achieve fourth place in the rebranded Premiere Ligue but they lost to eventual champions – Lyon in the top-four play-offs.

Speaking about her move to Tyneside following completion of her move, Grec said that she is “very excited” to be part of the Magpies’ project as they target a promotion challenge to reach the Women’s Super League this coming season.

“I feel very excited to be a part of this big club, and that’s such a pleasure for me, and I cannot wait for our first game.

“Once I heard about the project here, it was amazing, and all of the people here are very ambitious, so for me, the choice was very clear. Our objectives are very clear here to get to the WSL.”

Manager, Becky Langley added: “Gosia joins us off the back of three successful years playing in the top-flight of French football, and we are delighted to have her onboard.

“She carries a great physical presence in both boxes, she has a brilliant passing range and is technically gifted.

“We are excited to welcome her into the group and start working with her.”

The 25-year-old began her career at KS AZS Wroclaw before she joined Gornik Leczna, where she twice won the Ekstraliga title plus Polish Cup, before she spent a season at St. Polten where she won a domestic double
